Obaidul Islam Robi,Rajshahi: A meeting titled ‘Role of Media in Preventing Child Sexual Abuse on Internet’ has been held in Rajshahi. The meeting was held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the conference room of the Association for Community Development-ACD, a development and human rights organization. The meeting was organized under the organization’s project titled ‘Preventing Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Online and Travel’. The meeting was attended by 14 journalists from different media, representatives of youth groups and people from different walks of life.

Speaking on the occasion, Mostafa Kamal, Program Manager, ACD, said that in the current age of the Internet, online child sexual abuse is a daily occurrence. Online sexual abuse is on the rise, especially during the Corona epidemic, when people are unable to get out of their homes. It is important to raise awareness about what kind of abuse children are being subjected to online or on the Internet at this time. And the only powerful means of raising awareness is the media. At the same time, he requested the journalists present to provide articles and investigative news about the various forms of sexual harassment or abuse of children through the internet.
During the discussion, the members of the youth group presented a realistic picture of what is happening in or around them on how children and adolescents are being sexually abused or exploited through the internet. Journalists from the media outlets also expressed their views on publishing reports, investigations or articles on a regular basis to create awareness on the prevention of sexual harassment online.
